Bio

Professor Tan Eng King is the Deputy Medical Director (Academic Affairs), and Senior Consultant with Department of Neurology at National Neuroscience Institute (NNI). He is also a professor at the Duke-NUS Medical School and Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine.

An influential figure in the field of research, Dr Tan has authored more than 500 peer-reviewed papers and book chapters on clinical and neuroimaging studies, functional genomics and experimental therapeutics in Movement Disorders. He is presently an editor with European Journal of Neurology, Parkinsonism Related Disorders and Journal of Parkinson’s disease. 

Dr Tan has actively served in various committees in the International Movement Disorders Society (MDS) and the International Association Parkinsonism and Related Disorders (IAPRD) and is a founding member of the MDS Asian Oceanic Section. For his tremendous contribution to research in Movement Disorders, Dr Tan has received numerous awards including 2016 Yoshikuni Mizuno Award, (MDS- Asian and Oceanian Section), 2018 David Marsden Award (MDS) and 2018 President’s Science Award. 

Dr Tan specialises in movement disorders and his primary research interests are in genetic epidemiology and the molecular mechanism underpinning disease causing genes in Parkinson’s disease and essential tremor. He is also actively engaged in clinical trials, neuroimaging, quality of life and pharmacogenetic studies in various neurological diseases.
