For his role in spearheading vaccine development, Professor Ooi Eng Eong from Duke-NUS’ Emerging Infectious Diseases Programme, was one of six individuals honoured with The Straits Times’ Asians of the Year Award. Collectively known as Asia’s virus busters, these scientists played instrumental roles in advancing Asia’s fight against SARS-CoV-2, representing the entire trajectory of the pandemic response.
Already in its ninth run, The Straits Times’ Asians of the Year Award honours an individual, a group of people or an institution that has made the news and significantly contributed to their society, country or Asia as a whole.
