Duke-NUS champions women researchers, creates new award to support top female students

While there is an amazing array of accomplished women around the world, there aren’t enough of them, particularly in the field of medical research. There are many reasons for this disparity, not the least of which are historical prejudice and barriers.

To highlight the opportunities as well as the challenges faced by women pursuing careers in science, the Development team at Duke-NUS organised a special panel discussion on 24 May 2023. Titled Science Excellence: Championing Women Researchers at Duke-NUS, this inaugural panel discussion featured four star women researchers from across the SingHealth Duke-NUS Academic Medicine Centre.

Prof Tina Wong opened the discussion as moderator, with three other panelists, namely Assoc Prof Andrea KwaAsst Prof Ann-Marie Chacko and Asst Prof Rena Dharmawan. The ladies shared candidly about their backgrounds, how they overcame biases and challenges, and the role models and mentors who supported them in their paths to success.
