LCPC-SHC Palliative Care Symposium
|LCPC-SHC Palliative Care Symposium|
The Lien Centre for Palliative Care (LCPC) and the Singapore Hospice Council (SHC) jointly held a symposium on 8 October 2015, in honor of World Palliative Care Day. The event was conceptualized to bring together the local palliative care community in Singapore, and revisit the National Strategy for Palliative Care Report (NSPC) that was released by the Ministry of Health (MOH) in 2012. The goals of the day were to determine the progress that has been made since the NSPC Report, but also identify the prevailing gaps, and discuss collaborative initiatives to address these gaps and improve palliative care in Singapore.
The morning session consisted of presentations by local speakers, followed by a luncheon in honor of World Palliative Care Day. The afternoon consisted of 4 breakout sessions. The symposium was very well attended –240 people attended the morning session and 182 people attended the breakout discussions.
This was an important and successful event within the local palliative care community. It was remarkable to see the interest from the ground, as well as the thought leaders from the various sectors coming together to engage in active discussions around the needs for improvement and the commitment to collaborate. Everybody present concurred that there is much work to do to improve the end of life experiences for patients in Singapore. LCPC and SHC will continue to engage the various stakeholders and follow up on the projects proposed to see them through fruition.
