Scientific Writing Workshop with Prof George Gopen 20-21 September 2022

Scientific Writing Workshop was conducted in 8 sessions of small group tutorials for a total of 21 participants, who are recent NMRC Transition Award and Clinician Scientist Award awardees, and CCSD’s Individual Development Plan mentees. The workshop was conducted by Prof George Gopen, Professor Emeritus of the Practice of Rhetoric, Duke University, and creator of the writing curriculum known as the Reader Expectation Approach to the English Language. Using participants’ actual writing samples, Prof Gopen demonstrated how readers interpret meaning can be changed to more closely align to author’s intention, leading to increased success in winning grants and getting manuscripts accepted for publication.
