Research Project Professor Yasuhiko Saito at the College of Economics, Nihon University, Tokyo, Japan is a renowned researcher in the area of comparative ageing, health and life expectancy for the Asia region. His research focuses on health expectancy, ageing and health. His research and educational interests include demography and gerontology, and he has been working on population ageing and health issues in both developed and developing countries. His research projects on ageing and disability extend to more than 20 countries. Professor Saito has in-depth experience in conducting surveys on ageing and health in Asian countries and has led a six wave nationally representative longitudinal survey on ageing and health in Japan called “Nihon University Japanese Longitudinal Study of Ageing” (NUJLSOA). He has also worked on a 5-country comparative study of centenarians, including Denmark, France, Japan, Sweden, and Switzerland (5-COOP). He is currently overseeing nationally representative longitudinal surveys on ageing and health in the Philippines and Vietnam with support from the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), Jakarta, Indonesia.
