In a partnership of less than two decades, the combined strength of Duke-NUS Medical School and SingHealth has steered the growth of the SingHealth Duke-NUS Academic Medical Centre (AMC) towards its vision of defining tomorrow’s medicine by providing the ecosystem for academia and the impetus for translation of discovery.
Supported by the strength of more than 2000 Academic Clinical Programme (ACP) faculty across SingHealth, the largest public healthcare system in Singapore, it is the key role and responsibility of the Office of Academic Medicine (OAM) to build ties and bridges across the Academic Medicine (AM) ecosystem and forge close relationships and collaborations among the faculty members of our ACPs, Signature Research Programs (SRPs) and those of Duke University & Duke Health, Durham, USA. We will work towards synergy across the AMC by appropriately supporting many of our Joint Institutes, SingHealth Duke-NUS Disease Centres (SDDCs), and encourage development of joint programmes across the AMC.
An equally important mission of our OAM is to support the development of a strong Clinician-Plus pipeline. While we have, over the years, developed a framework of systematic support for clinician researchers, we will continue to review and revise the support to ensure its relevance and comprehensiveness. In addition, conscious of the evolving landscape of our health system, we are committed to support life-long learning & professional development, as well as recognition, of a wider range of academic clinicians that spans from clinician-innovators, clinician-informatician, clinician-educators to clinicians with expertise in the fields of medical humanities, or passion for global health that are required to meet tomorrow’s healthcare needs.
It, however, takes time and many people to nurture every talent, as well as to turn research ideas into clinical impact. We can only achieve all the above through the collective efforts and contributions of the different departments, Centre and teams within OAM (viz. Academic Programmes Management Department, Appointments and Development Department, Centre for Clinician-Scientists+ Development, AM Strategy Planning & Management and Academic Funds Strategic Planning, Management & Disbursement) and beyond. As we advance the strategic goals of our AMC and drive excellence in AM to address the many health challenges ahead, we look forward to the support and contribution of ideas from our fellow colleagues, residents and students.
