EID Seminar Series - mRNA TT Programme: Platforms, Products and Partnerships for Interpandemic Sustainability and Pandemic Preparedness

This presentation will focus on the mRNA technology innovation strategy of the WHO/MPP mRNA vaccine technology platform with a particular focus on making mRNA vaccine development and manufacturing accessible to LMICs. The programme model is a
technology transfer “hub” called Afrigen located in South Africa. This programme develops an end-to-end mRNA research, development and GMP manufacturing platform and
provides platform-specic training and technology transfer to the 15 programme partners across the world.

Professor Petro Terblanche is the CEO of Afrigen Biologics, a development and manufacturing entity which hosts the WHO Global mRNA technology development and transfer Hub. Her qualications include a Master of Science and a Doctor of
Science in Medical Oncology, University of Pretoria and a
post-doctoral at the Harvard University School of Public Health. She has published more than 200 scientic publications in public health and is acknowledged as one of the
legends of science by the Academy of Sciences South Africa.
