Professor Aymeric Lim, Chief Executive Officer of National University Hospital (NUH), brings more than three decades of experience in healthcare leadership, clinical practice, and education to his role. His extensive career, which spans senior leadership roles, groundbreaking clinical innovations, military service, and humanitarian missions, makes him a prominent figure in Singapore’s healthcare sector.

As CEO of NUH since 2021, Professor Lim leads Singapore’s leading university hospital, a premier tertiary care institution that integrates education, research, and innovation. Under his leadership, NUH continues to play a critical role in advancing healthcare delivery, enhancing patient care, and driving research breakthroughs. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Professor Lim’s leadership was pivotal in ensuring NUH’s resilience and agility in responding to the unprecedented healthcare challenges.

Before becoming CEO, Professor Lim held several senior roles within the National University Health System (NUHS), including Group Chairman of the Medical Board and Group Chief Human Resource Officer. In these capacities, he was responsible for shaping clinical governance, driving talent development strategies, and overseeing healthcare delivery across the NUHS cluster. As the Dean of the Healthcare Leadership College from 2011 to 2021, he spearheaded initiatives that helped develop the leadership capabilities of healthcare professionals in Singapore, equipping them with the skills needed to address the evolving challenges of the healthcare system.

Professor Lim is a Senior Consultant in the Department of Hand and Reconstructive Microsurgery at NUH and a Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the National University of Singapore (NUS). He is an internationally recognized expert in peripheral nerve surgery, brachial plexus reconstruction, and advanced microsurgical techniques. His clinical expertise has led to innovations in nerve repair, tendon transfers, and complex hand surgeries. His work has had a profound impact on improving patient outcomes, particularly in cases of severe nerve injuries. In addition to his clinical practice, Professor Lim is deeply committed to medical education. His contributions to education have earned him numerous teaching awards, including being recognized as a "Role Model" by medical students multiple times. His influence in the academic field has been instrumental in shaping the next generation of healthcare professionals.

Beyond his contributions to healthcare, Professor Lim has served in the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF), where he held the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. As Battalion Commander of the 2nd Combat Support Hospital, he played a key role in leading medical units in various military operations and humanitarian missions. His leadership in the SAF earned him multiple military honours, including the prestigious Commendation Medal (Military) in 2012 for his outstanding leadership during his tenure as Commanding Officer. He was also recognized for his service during Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) missions, including the SAF’s response to the Indonesia earthquake and tsunami disaster. Professor Lim’s commitment to humanitarian work extends beyond his military service. He has led and participated in numerous surgical missions to underserved regions in Asia, including Cambodia, Timor-Leste, and West Timor. These missions involved providing essential surgical care and training local medical teams in reconstructive microsurgery and trauma care. His dedication to global health and improving medical access in resource-poor settings exemplifies his passion for using his skills to make a meaningful difference.

Throughout his career, Professor Lim has been recognized with numerous awards for his leadership, clinical excellence, and public service. In 2023, he was awarded the Public Administration Medal (Gold) for his exemplary leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic. Other notable accolades include the National Outstanding Clinician Award (2019), the Long Service Medal (2022), and the Medal of Commendation (NTUC May Day Awards, 2023). These honours reflect his significant contributions to both Singapore’s healthcare landscape and the broader global health community.
