Professor Philip Choo is currently the Senior Advisor for NHG Board of Advisor. Prior to that, Prof Choo was Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the National Healthcare Group (NHG) from 2015 to 2023 and Chief Executive Officer, TTSH and Deputy CEO, NHG from 2011-2014.
Prof Choo is internationally recognised as an accomplished Geriatrician with over 25 years of experience and a key driving force in the growth of geriatric capability in public healthcare.
He was awarded the TTSH Doctor of the Year in 1996. During Prof Choo’s term as GCEO NHG, he has successfully steered NHG in fostering better management of population health and in strengthening the mandate to transform care for residents in Central and North of Singapore. Prof Choo is the architect of NHG’s River of Life (ROL) framework of care, with focus on preventive care through addressing the physical, psychosocial, and socio-economic determinants of health.
Prof Choo’s leadership during the SARS epidemic in 2003, as head of the medical team, was accorded the National Day Public Service Star Award in 2003. He was also awarded the National Day Public Administration Medal (Silver) in 2011, National Day Long Service Medal in 2015, and the National Day Public Administration Medal (Gold) in 2019.
In 2023, Prof Choo was awarded the National Day Public Service Star Award (BBM) (Covid-19) – (2023) for support to the national response to the Covid-19 pandemic, mounting organisation-wide coordination efforts to meet the scale, complexity and urgency of the crisis.
Most recently, Prof Philip Choo was conferred Emeritus Consultant, Tan Tock Seng Hospital (January 2024). Prof Choo serves on several Boards which include the Ren Ci Hospital, Ang Mo Kio-Thye Hua Kwan Hospital and Assisi Hospice. He also Chairs the Medical Advisory Panel appointed by MHA for Singapore Prison Service; Medical Advisory Board to MINDEF & SAF; and Ageing Research Institute for Society and Education Advisory Board NTU.
