Growing Our Global Health Learning Opportunities

Since 2018, we have established a range of programmes to expose students and faculty to Global Health and to provide them with greater opportunities to participate in Global Health work. These include:

Our training programmes provide medical and PhD students, medical residents, faculty and clinicians across the SingHealth Duke-NUS Academic Medical Centre (AMC) with the opportunity to engage in innovative and interdisciplinary research and field experience to enhance their learning and prepare them for a wide range of career options in global health.

Global Health Training Modules for Medical Students

What is the programme about?
As a part of the Duke-NUS Medical School's CARE (Connect, Assimilate, Reflect, Explore) curriculum framework, faculty from SDGHI incorporate global health modules to the Phase 2 students' curriculum. The goal is to raise awareness and understanding of how global health issues impact the health of Singapore and practice of medicine. Through a blended learning approach, SDGHI hopes to produce outstanding clinicians with global views and equip them with the skills to address future healthcare challenges.

Introduction to Global Health Residency Programme

What is the programme about?
The Introduction to Global Health Residency Programme is a 9-lecture series that has been developed in partnership with faculty members from the Academic Clinical Programmes (ACPs), to be delivered over a 3-year period to respective medical residents. The programme aims to introduce residents to key concepts and terminologies of global health, to stimulate interest in tackling global health challenges, and to expose residents to the scope and implications of global health on everyday medical practice both within and outside their chosen medical specialty.

Global Health Doctoral Scholars Track (APPLICATIONS REOPEN IN JANUARY 2025)

Who can apply?
PhD students enrolled in Duke-NUS, at any point during their candidacy

What is the programme about?
The programme aims to encourage PhD students to research health issues in the region and grow the community of global health scholars. In this track, scholars are supported to undertake high quality innovative research on relevant global health challenges in the region, with a SDGHI faculty member as their research advisor. In addition, scholars participate in various global health courses, seminars, and other knowledge sharing events to build on and expand their knowledge of global health.

Global Health Fellows Programme (APPLICATIONS OPEN)

Who can apply?
Faculty members from the SingHealth Academic Clinical Programmes (ACP)

What is the programme about?
With the aim to develop future global health leaders, the Global Health Fellows Programme provides SingHealth healthcare practitioners the opportunity to advance their careers in global health. As part of this programme, physicians obtain a SDGHI scholarship to pursue a Masters of Public Health with a global health track, at the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health. In addition, fellows may apply for a research grant from SDGHI for to embark on a field research project during the course of their study.

Graduate Certificate in Global Health Practice in Asia

Who can apply?
Anyone with a Bachelor's degree in any field

What is the programme about?
The Graduate Certificate in Global Health Practice in Asia seeks to empower participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to address Global Health issues affecting Singapore, Asia, and beyond. It will provide participants with a strong foundation of both theoretical knowledge and practical skills to further their careers in Global Health as practitioners, educators, researchers or administrators. The Graduate Certificate is condensed into 4 one-week courses that span 2 academic semesters, comprising lectures, interactive case studies, small group work, and opportunities for in-depth study.

Graduate Certificate in Global Health Innovation

Who can apply?
Anyone with a Bachelor's degree in any field and a minimum of three years of work experience.

What is the programme about?
The Graduate Certificate in Global Health Innovation integrates global health and its challenges into every stage of the innovation process to achieve health equity for all. Focusing on the Asian context, this certificate offers valuable insights into the region’s health systems. This certificate offers four in-person, week-long courses at SingHealth Campus, Singapore. Participants gain hands-on experience in developing and implementing policies for healthcare innovations, with a focus on driving real-world impact.
