Dr Siu Ping Lam, PhD, BPharm, FRPharmS, MTOPRA is the former Director of Licensing Division at the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA). He is an Executive Director of the Corporate Executive Team of the Agency and sits on many governance committees. As Director of Licensing Division, he has responsibility for the approval of applications for marketing authorisations of all types of medicines carried out in the Division, including innovative medicinal products, as well as approval of Clinical Trial Applications in the UK. Supporting innovation is a very important element of work in the Licensing Division. Dr Lam chairs the Agency Implementation Group for the Early Access of Medicines Scheme (EAMS). Dr Lam has over 29 years’ experience in medicines regulation gained whilst working as an assessor as well as in various managerial positions in the Agency. He was also UK delegate to a number of EC Scientific Working Parties.

Dr Lam graduated with a first degree in Pharmacy from Chelsea College, University of London and gained his PhD in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from King’s College, University of London, as a Croucher Scholar. He was a Mapplethorpe Fellow at King’s with research interests in drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics. He was trained and qualified as a pharmacist and is a Fellow of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain.
