Senior Consultant (Palliative Medicine)

 

Brief Biography:

A/Prof Alethea Yee is a specialist in Palliative Medicine and a Senior Consultant at the Division of Supportive and Palliative Care (DSPC) at the National Cancer Centre Singapore. She was Head of DSPC from 2011-2018 during which she oversaw a huge expansion of DSPC into service, education and research arms. On stepping down as HoD, she was seconded to Assisi Hospice as a Clinical Director from Aug 2018 to July 2023. With the formation of the Singhealth Duke-NUS Supportive and Palliative Care Centre, a platform that brings together various palliative care services within Singhealth in a strategic and coordinated approach, A/P Yee took up the post of Deputy Director.

As Clinical Director of Assisi Hospice, she oversaw the clinical services of an 85-bedded inpatient hospice, an expanding home hospice service and a day hospice. The Assisi home care service tripled in size to become a preferred home care of choice in the community.

On the education front, A/Prof Yee is the Education Director of the Lien Centre for Palliative Care Centre (LCPC), Duke-NUS GMS from 2014, as well as founder member of the national Subspecialty Training Committee for Palliative Medicine from 2007. Under A/P Yee’s leadership, the education arm of LCPC expanded its portfolio of blended learning programs from 1 to 13, trained close to 5000 healthcare professionals (as of July 2023) as well as developed the 1st fully online palliative care course in Singapore. LCPC courses are designed to meet the learning needs of the practitioners on the ground, customised to the context they are practising in, and leverages on technology for innovation and scalability. From April 2023, she is appointed Chair of SSTC (Palliative Medicine) to oversee the national training of palliative medicine specialists.
