Welcome to the Professional Certificate in Palliative Care for Social Workers!
previously known as Palliative Care Course for Social Workers (Basic)
*Winner of AMEI Golden Apple Award for Programme Excellence (2019)*

This professional certificate covers the principles and practice of palliative care. It aims to build professional competency and confidence by equipping participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to work with patients and families facing life-threatening illnesses. The trainers in this course range from experienced social workers to doctors and nurses from the field of palliative care. The content is presented through interactive lectures, discussions and role play activities.

This is a blended learning course where participants will be able to access mini-presentations, assessments, video clips and other resources via the Duke-NUS Learning Management System.

Course Duration: Held over a total of 11 days from Apr-May 2025 with 4 days of online learning and 7 days of face-to-face teaching sessions.

There will be a 1hr Pre-Course Briefing held in mid-March 2025 (details to be confirmed), conducted online over Zoom.

Community Care Manpower Development Awards (CCMDA)

Our Professional Certificate in Palliative Care for Social workers is now part of the Community Care Manpower Development Awards (CCMDA) pre-approved course list!
Eligible participants from the Community Care sector will be able to tap on CCMDA for funding support to pursue the programme. Kindly contact ccmda@aic.sg if you require any assistance.

Participants interested to tap on CCMDA for funding support are required to submit their applications to AIC before the course start date. It is highly recommended that you submit the application latest by 28 February 2025.

This course is highly subsidized and participants will be required to pay the full course fee of S$ 1,962.00 under any of the following circumstances:

Withdrawal from the course on or after course start date
Failure to fulfil a minimum attendance of 80% for the teaching sessions
Failure to complete and pass all prescribed coursework and assessments for the course

Accreditation & Certification

This course is supported and accredited by the Singapore Association of Social Workers (SASW).

Course participants will receive 1 CPE credit per hour of face-to-face teaching time, and will be awarded with an e-Certificate of completion at the end of the course*.

*The Professional Certificate will only be awarded to participants who achieved at least 80% attendance for face-to-face teachings and completion of all coursework (including assessments and evaluation)

Target Audience

Social Workers who are interested in learning more about working with patients and families facing life-threatening illnesses. Priority will be given to social workers who are working in the palliative care setting.

Other Allied Health Professionals (Creative Therapists, Counsellors and Psychologists) who are working predominantly with patients with serious illness in palliative care services or palliative care wards in community hospitals or nursing home.

Prerequisites

Ability to commit to the whole course
Proficiency in English
Social Workers: A recognised degree in Social Work with a minimum 2 years of clinical experience
Other Allied Health Professionals: A relevant degree with a minimum 4 years of experience
