“The centre has been set up to promote global health research partnerships, foster innovation, and enhance the clinical skills of our healthcare workforce,” said Prof Surenthirakumaran, Dean, Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna.
The SingHealth Duke-NUS Academic Medical Centre and the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Jaffna are already collaborating on projects in trauma care, cancer research, neuroscience, and orthopaedic innovation. The launch of the RCC will take things one step further, says Ms Vijaya Rao, Director, International Collaboration Office, SingHealth and Deputy Director, SDGHI.
“We look forward to further coordinating joint research, education and development activities with our partners in the University of Jaffna,” she said. “There is much that we can collaborate on through the formalised RCC."
The Jaffna Regional Collaborating Centre is the second of SDGHI’s 3 planned RCCs. Last year, an MOU was signed with the Universitas Sumatera Utara in Medan, Indonesia.
