Bio

I completed my PhD at the Cancer Science Institute of Singapore under the supervision of Prof. Patrick Tan. My research focused on using whole exome sequencing to identify somatic mutations with predictive or prognostic impact in cancer. This work led to the discovery of recurrent SETD2 mutations in 11.2% of high-risk gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs), underscoring their potential as prognostic markers (Huang, McPherson et al. 2016). This study received the Best Student Publication Award at the Cancer Science Institute, Singapore, and the Best Poster Award at the Cancer and Stem Cell Biology program in Duke-NUS.

During my postdoctoral training in the same lab, I broadened my research to include DNA methylation arrays, transcriptome sequencing, and single-cell and spatial transcriptomics to identify novel driver alterations in pre-malignant gastric cancer. This work resulted in two significant publications: one utilizing targeted sequencing and DNA methylation arrays to pinpoint genetic and epigenetic alterations in premalignant gastric intestinal metaplasia (Huang, Ramnarayanan et al. 2018), and another involving comprehensive DNA targeted sequencing and transcriptome sequencing, supplemented with single-cell and spatial transcriptomic data (Huang, Ma et al. 2023).
