TEACHING COURSES I HAVE ORGANISED OR CO-ORGANISED
1. Nov 2010-Nov 2012: “Cardiology: Bench to Bedside”
Student selected component (SSC) for 1st year medical students, UCL.
Together with Prof Derek Yellon, I devised this new annual 8 week SSC for 1st year medical students which provides them with a unique insight into Cardiology (Bench to Bedside). It was assessed by the students giving presentations on common Cardiology subjects and has received excellent feedback.
2. April 2008-April 2012: “Cardiology: A refresher course”
Student selected component (SSC) for 3rd year medical students, UCL.
I personally devised, organised and ran this new 2 week SSC 2-3 times a year for 3rd year medical students. It provided a refresher course in Cardiology from Cardiovascular Physiology, to Cardiovascular research to Clinical Cardiology. It comprised, lectures, bedside teaching, Harvey teaching, observing echocardiography, cardiac MRI and ECG’s. It was assessed by students giving presentations on Cardiology subjects. I have received excellent feedback from the students 4.5/5 and also a UCL Teaching Award in Dec 2009 and Dec 2011.
3. Jan 2012-2015: “Cardiometabolic Patient Pathway”
I organised this new innovative teaching module for 2nd MBBS which provides patient-centred tutor group teaching. We provided a 6 weeks program of tutor group teaching for all 300 2nd MBBS over a 6-week period. We have received excellent feedback for the medical students and this brings in £200,000 per year to the ICS. I currently mark essays for this teaching module.
4. Oct 2012-Jan 2015: “MSc Cardiovascular Science”
I co-organised and ran this new MSc at UCL with Prof Philippa Talmud.
In its first year we had 12 MSc students and have received excellent feedback. In its first year this MSc earned the Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences £200,000. I have organised 2 modules for this MSc (Clinical Cardiology and Animal Models in Cardiovascular Research).
