Bio

Dr Chan is a Senior Consultant with the Singapore National Eye Centre, having been with the Centre since 2000. She sees and performs surgeries on patients with general eye complaints such as cataracts as well as patients with retinal problems, including those with age-related macular degeneration; diabetic retinopathy and maculopathy; central and branch retinal vein occlusions; and inherited retinal dystrophies. 
 
Dr Chan obtained her basic medical degree from the University of Sydney in 1998 while on both the Equity and Merit Scholarship, as well as the Wesley College Scholarship. She completed her post-graduate training in Ophthalmology and obtained her Masters of Medicine from the National University of Singapore in 2004, and her Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (Ophthalmology) from Edinburgh in 2007. Subsequently, she achieved Specialist Accreditation with the Ministry of Health in Singapore and was admitted as a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine of Singapore (FAMS). In 2008, Dr Chan completed her fellowship in Medical Retina, specialising in the management of age-related macular degeneration; diabetic retinopathy and maculopathy; as well as central and branch retinal vein occlusions. In 2014, she completed a fellowship in inherited retinal dystrophies at the Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, UK while on the HMDP award from the Ministry of Health of Singapore. 

Dr Chan practices at the Singapore National Eye Centre and SNEC Branch at Bedok Clinic. Besides her clinical practice, Dr Chan is also a ​Clinical Associate Professor at the Duke-NUS Medical School as well as Clinical Senior Lecturer with the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at the National University of Singapore, teaching junior doctors and medical students. She also organises and gives public talks on ophthalmological problems and their management. 

Dr Chan is currently involved in research in collaboration with the Singapore Eye Research Institute. She is a principal investigator on a NMRC grant researching the proteomics of tears in anterior segment disorder. She also is a sub-investigator on numerous trials researching the safety and efficacy of intravitreal medications in the treatment of age-related macular degenerations and retinal vein occlusions; as well as phenotyping of age-related macular degeneration. 
 
In addition, Dr Chan takes pride in providing personalised service to her patients and was awarded a Gold Award in the Singapore Health Quality Service Award 2016 as recognition for her efforts.
