Bio
A/Prof Audrey Chia graduated from the University of Sydney, and did her ophthalmology training at the Sydney Eye Hospital. She returned to Singapore in 2000 and worked as an Ophthalmology Registrar at the Singapore National Eye Centre before doing a Paediatric Ophthalmology fellowship at the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London. Since her return to Singapore, she has been based at the Singapore National Eye Centre. She is currently Head of the Paediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus Department, and Clinical Director, Myopia Service at the Singapore National Eye Centre.
Besides being actively involved in clinical care, A/Prof Chia’s research interests include strabismus, amblyopia, retinopathy of prematurity, medical and non-medical control of myopia. She is a Senior Clinical Investigator and co-heads the Myopia research unit at the Singapore Eye Research Institute (SERI). She is currently a principal investigator of several myopia interventional and cohort studies. As part of the Myopia Team at SERI, she was awarded the President Science & Technology Award in 2019. More recently, she is also clinical director of the Myopia Service at SNEC, and has been involved in the development of the Myopia Center at Bedok.
A/Prof Chia also helps provide service at SNEC-SERI Visual ElectroDiagnostic Laboratory. Her interests here include functional changes in myopia and amblyopia, retinal dystrophy and drug-related toxicities.
As past Vice-Chair, Faculty and Professional Development; Program Director and Core Faculty of the Singhealth ophthalmology residency program, A/Prof Chia continues to enjoy her role in the development, training and education of young ophthalmologist, ophthalmology residents and scientist at the Singapore National Eye Center, and Singapore Eye Research Institute.
