Bio
I am an anatomical pathologist with an interest in dermatopathology, currently Head of Department at the Department of Pathology at Sengkang General Hospital. At Sengkang General Hospital, I have been spearheading the development of several new services, increasing the level of capability of the hospital. We have rolled out direct immunofluorescence tests for skin biopsies which is critical for histopathological diagnosis of many inflammatory skin conditions. I also lead the molecular pathology unit in the department, and we are harnessing new technologies in molecular biology to develop new tests to aid patient care.
I have also been active in scientific research, with a number of well-cited publications in the field of cancer biology, particularly in tumours associated with tuberous sclerosis, breast and cervical cancers. My current research interests are in hair and skin biology, as well as, dermatopathology. A number of collaborative projects are on-going with groups in Wellcome Sanger Institute (UK), the School of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering in Nanyang Technological University, as well as the Skin Research Institute of Singapore.
As a passionate educator, I have been involved in the teaching of undergraduate medical, dental and pharmacy students at the National University of Singapore. I was also involved in development and planning of curriculum for medical students as a member of NUS Medicine’s dermatology systems-based workgroup and was a case writer for a collaborative learning case that is currently in use by second-year medical students.
