Bio
I studied medicine from 1989-1996 in West China University of Medical Sciences on a 7-year program and graduated with a Bachelor degree of Medicine and Master Degree of Surgery (Neurosurgery). After graduation, I worked in the Neurosurgery Department of Guangzhou Overseas Chinese Hospital, an affiliated hospital of Jinan University. In 1998, I came to Singapore to pursue my PhD at Department of Surgery, NUS, studying the epigenetics of malignant brain tumor. After obtaining my PhD in 2002, I worked as a postdoc in National Neuroscience Institute and Department of Physiology, NUS. My research focus was on the pharmacology, physiology, and pathophysiology of L-type calcium channel in heart and blood vessels. In 2010, I established Calcium Signalling Lab in National Neuroscience Institute as Principal Investigator, with a focus on ion channels in particular TRP channels in stroke and other central nervous system diseases such as head injury and vascular dementia. My lab has developed a TRPM4 blocking antibody that could ameliorate stroke reperfusion injury and has the potential to extend current stroke reperfusion time window from 4.5 hours to 6 hours. This antibody and relevant information is under PCT patenting in US and Europe. Meanwhile, I also hold joint position in DUKE NUS and Singapore Institute of Technology, teaching medical students and undergraduate allied health students.
