Bio

Dr Chng Chai Kiat is the Head & Senior Consultant (Orthodontics), Cleft & Craniofacial Dentistry Unit. He treats a wide array of orthodontic cases including provision of orthodontic care and is known for his ‘Surgery First’ Ortho-orthognathic management and the treatment of cleft and cranio-facial patients.

He obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Dentistry in 2000 and his Master’s Degree in Orthodontics in 2007 from National University of Singapore. During this time he obtained his membership in Orthodontics conferred by the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh (M Orth RCSEd). He then went on to pursue his Fellowship in Clinical Orthodontics in 2008 from Chang Gung Memorial Hospital (Taiwan).

Dr Chng has a keen interest in clinical research and has been an investigator for various research topics in the field of orthodontics. His interests lie in topics such as:

Biomaterials
Biology of tooth movement,
3-D imaging
Orthognathic surgery and Accelerated tooth movement
Aetiology, genetics and the prevention of cleft deformity in patients. He has been awarded with research grants for two of his research projects.
Apart from his involvement in clinical research, he has also been invited as a keynote speaker for various national and international orthodontic conferences.

Dr Chng is actively involved in volunteer work at Smile Asia (http://www.smileasia.org/) where he manages and integrates dental care for Cleft lip and Cleft Palate patients into the interdisciplinary teams. He is also a Member for the Smile Asia Alliance Medical Council.
