Our Master Academic Clinicians are a select group who have distinguished themselves through their clinical mastery, exemplary standards of professionalism and excellence in their scholarly activities; which range from education, leadership, research and innovation to patient safety and quality improvement.

Our Master Academic Clinicians are ambassadors for Duke-NUS and role models to our students and faculty.  We are proud of the accomplishments of our Master Academic Clinicians and appreciate their contributions to Duke-NUS, as we strive towards our vision of transforming medicine and improving lives.

Abhilash Balakrishnan

Clinical Associate Professor Balakrishnan exemplifies the highest standards of professionalism, consistently inspiring his peers and junior doctors to strive for excellence. Until 2021, he treated patients across all classes, and he now focuses exclusively on seeing subsidized patients referred from the public healthcare system at both SGH and KKH.  His commitment to quality care and education has earned him numerous accolades. With a career spanning over four decades, he is a highly respected Otorhinolaryngology Surgeon and esteemed academic clinician, renowned both locally and internationally.

Clinical Professor Chung is a well-respected master surgeon, widely acclaimed for his exceptional skills in performing complex liver resections. His reputation as the go-to expert for challenging surgical cases is well-earned, and he is equally recognized for his excellence as an educator and mentor. He has been instrumental in guiding and shaping the careers of many young surgeons through his dedication and insightful mentorship. His mentorship extends well beyond the classroom; he is respected for his dedication to providing guidance and support to junior clinicians, aiding them in navigating the complexities of their professional journeys.

Clinical Professor Lateef’s strong servant leadership style as well as transformative model for negotiating change and uplifting and enhancing lives, people and organisations, ensures the values she holds close to her heart are executed. Clinical Professor Goh’s passion in advancing care and outcomes for paediatric patients with respiratory and allergy problems through her efforts in improving clinical practice standards, her determination to maintain a high and consistent level of training and education for local and regional clinicians and lastly, her determination and perseverance in showcasing results of projects done in the form of academic output in international meetings and reputable journals has won her much acclaim from her colleagues and peers locally and internationally.

Associate Professor Lim is a very talented and well-respected individual who has spent decades honing his clinical skills to become one of the top neuro-interventionalists in Singapore and the Asia Pacific region. He has served as a wonderful role model and mentor to the scores of residents and fellow colleagues whom have had the fortune of interacting with him during his years of service and leadership within education. He has literally nurtured a whole generation of radiologists, and the entire community has become stronger as a result of his dedication.

Through the years, he has received numerous compliments and letters of appreciation from patients. He gives his absolute best to serve the patients and it is no surprise that many doctors go to him as their cardiologist! He is an avid educator, actively teaching and mentoring medical doctors and other healthcare professionals.

Professor Lim Soon Thye (Academic Chair, Oncology ACP)

Tan Thuan Tong

Clinical Professor, Medicine ACP

Clinical Professor Tan is an outstanding clinician, researcher, educator, and leader with over 25 years of service in public healthcare. His most notable contribution is undoubtedly the leadership in the Covid-19 pandemic where he was co-chair of the outbreak response team in the SGH campus and successfully co-led the campus through multiple Covid-19 waves. As a leading infectious disease specialist, he contributes at the national level through his work at MOH and HSA. In his busy schedule, he continues to teach medical students and mentored ID trainees and residents. He has clearly demonstrated professionalism and ethos of being a good doctor.

Associate Professor Loo Chian Min (Academic Chair, Medicine ACP)

Tay Yong Kwang

Clinical Professor, Medicine ACP

Clinical Professor Tay is well renowned in the fields of dermatologic laser surgery and paediatric dermatology and is frequently sought for expert opinion in Singapore and internationally. He has served as the chair or a member of various committees in CGH and at the national level with the Ministry of Health. He has dedicated over 30 years of service in public healthcare, he is an exemplary and inspirational clinician who has taught and mentored many generations of clinicians.
