REACH (Research for Emerging Academic Clinicians in Healthcare)

Message from Prof Lim Shih Hui, Senior Associate Dean, Appointments and Development Department

Dear Clinician Faculty

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is an important life-long learning journey during our 30-40 years of clinical practice.

As you are practicing in SingHealth Duke-NUS Academic Medical Centre, you shall take this opportunity to make yourself more academic.  In addition to being proficient and an expert in your own specialty / subspecialty through your specialty-specific CPD, you could learn and excel in other academic domains such as Education, Research, Innovation, Quality Improvement, Patient Safety, and/or Leadership.

Research is a domain that all of us need to know and be good in it, even though we might not take the path of a clinician investigator or clinician scientist.  Evidence-base medicine practice is one of the most important reasons for us to be familiar with research and its application.

In order for our school to give you the most appropriate academic title and timely promotion in your academic career, quality and quantity of publications would be important.  As such, the Clinician Investigator Development Programme (CIVDP) are catered for many clinicians to learn the language, methodologies and application of research, relevant to your clinical practices.

I wish to see many of your eventually be a Master Academic Clinician (MAC) and a role model for our junior clinician to follow.

All the Best!

Professor Lim Shih Hui
