Duke-NUS and SingHealth clinician scientists recognised with top talent awards

Twenty-seven clinician scientists and researchers from the SingHealth Duke-NUS Academic Medical Centre (AMC) have been recognised with top National Medical Research Council (NMRC) talent development awards.

Among the winners are Professors Teh Bin Tean, Aung Tin and Salvatore Albani, who won Singapore Translational Research (STaR) Investigator Awards. The STaR Award is a prestigious award designed to nurture established world-class clinician investigators who undertake cutting-edge translational and clinical research.

Five leading clinician scientists—Professors Koh Woon Puay and Paul Yen from Duke-NUS, and Narayanan Gopalakrishna Iyer, Carolyn Lam and Jodhbir Mehta from across the AMC—clinched Clinician Scientist – Senior Investigator Awards. These grants are awarded to clinician scientists who have been highly productive and demonstrated strong leadership in translational and clinical research.

Maintaining a strong pipeline of future talent, 12 clinician scientists who have a strong research track record and demonstrated leadership skills have been recognised with Clinician Scientist – Investigator Awards, while a further seven budding clinician scientists received Transition Awards to further support their ambitions in research.

Associate Professor Ng Wai Hoe, meanwhile, won a Clinician Innovator Award. This award supports clinicians with potential medical innovation ideas. It is designed to enable clinicians to generate pilot data and bring their ideas to the next level.

“COVID-19 may have done away with the physical awards ceremony this year, but that does not undermine the outstanding achievements of our clinician scientists and researchers who have clinched these national awards for research spanning various fields,” noted the joint research leadership from Duke-NUS and SingHealth.
