Bio

Professor Angela Wang is currently Clinical Professor with Medicine Academic Clinical Programme at the SingHealth Duke-NUS Academic Medical Centre and Senior Consultant at the Department of Renal Medicine, Singapore General Hospital. She was formerly a staff nephrologist and clinician scientist at the Department of Medicine, Queen Mary Hospital, the University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong SAR, China. Angela has a strong track record in both clinical and academic medicine in nephrology. She has strong experience in international clinical practice guidelines (CPG) development and is world recognized for her research in cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic health, chronic kidney disease-mineral bone disease (CKD-MBD), biomarkers research for personalized cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic care, peritoneal dialysis and translational nutrition research in kidney disease. Her latest research endeavors are in clinical trials and innovations to improve the outcomes of patients with kidney diseases, precision medicine in cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic care as well as preventive kidney medicine. She is the Lead Principal Investigator of OPERA, PROCEED and PROOF Trials and also an Executive Member of POSIBIL6-ESKD Trials.

She actively contributes to international societies by being the current Councilor of the International Society of Nephrology (ISN), Chair of the ISN Education Working Group and Chair of the ISN North and East Asia Regional Board. She is the Past President of the International Society of Renal Nutrition and Metabolism (ISRNM). She co-chaired the Global Kidney Nutrition Care Atlas, a joint initiative between ISRNM and ISN with an aim to advance global kidney nutrition care. She is a Council member of the International Society of Peritoneal Dialysis (ISPD) and a member of the ISN Cardio-Renal Roadmap, a collaborative with the European Society of Heart Failure (ESHF), Renal Physician Association (RPA), American Society of Preventive Cardiology (ASPC) and Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) aiming to advance global cardio-kidney care. She was an Executive Committee member of Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO). She is also a Core Committee Member of ISN-Advancing Clinical Trial (ACT) with an aim to drive global clinical trials conduct in kidney diseases and an Executive Committee Member of the Standardized Outcomes in Nephrology (SONG) Initiative. 

She has served as a workgroup member of many international CPG including the latest KDIGO anaemia guidelines update in CKD (2022 -), the Joint ISPD and Global Renal Exercise Network (GREX) Practice Recommendations on Physical Activity and Exercise in PD in 2021, Kidney Disease Outcome Quality Initiative (KDOQI) Nutrition Guidelines in CKD in 2020, the ISPD Prescribing High Quality Goal-Directed PD Guidelines in 2020, and KDIGO CKD-Mineral Bone Disease (MBD) CPG in 2009. 
She chaired the ISPD Cardiovascular and Metabolic Guidelines for Adult Peritoneal Dialysis Patients in 2015 and is the Chair of the First Joint ISRNM and ISPD Practice Recommendations on Nutrition Management in Peritoneal Dialysis Patients (2023- ). Angela is also the co-chair of KDIGO CKD-MBD 2017 guidelines implementation Asia summit in 2017 and KDIGO Diabetes and Blood pressure in CKD Asia-Pacific guidelines implementation summit in 2024. 

She has received several prestigious international awards in recognition of her work in cardiovascular-metabolic-nutrition complications in kidney disease including the Thomas Addis Award, a lifetime award of the International Society of Renal Nutrition and Metabolism in Dec 2022, the Joel D. Kopple Award from the United States National Kidney Foundation in April 2018 in recognition of her contributions in the field of renal nutrition and metabolism. She has received the Travelling Lecturer Award of the Asia Pacific Federation of Clinical Biochemistry in 2011/2012 and the John F. Maher Award of the ISPD in 2006 in recognition of her research work in cardiac biomarkers, cardiovascular disease and peritoneal dialysis, respectively. She was invited to give Dr VN Acharya’s Oration at the 1st Annual Chapter of Women in Nephrology (WIN) -International Conference 2022.

She has published over 230 papers, 15 book chapters and delivered over 200 invited lectures at international and regional conferences. She currently serves on the editorial boards of several leading kidney journals including: Kidney Int, American Society of Nephrology (ASN) Journals, Nephrol Dial Transplant (Theme Editor), Nephron Clinical Practice (Associate Editor), J Renal Nutrition, J Diabetes, etc and was previously Associate Editor of Am J Kidney Dis. She is also the current Editor-in-Chief of European Medical Journal (EMJ)-Nephrology.
