Bio

Prof Fatimah Lateef graduated with an MBBS from the Faculty of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS). She also qualified with an FRCS from the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh as well as specialisations in Emergency Cardiovascular and Neurovascular Care and Prehospital Care Medicine from the Medical College of Virginia and the University of Cincinnati. She is also a Fellow, Academy of Medicine Singapore and holds Fellowship in Emergency Cardiac Care & Emergency Medical Services.

She serves as Senior Consultant, Director of Undergraduate Training and Education and Director of Clinical Service and Quality at the Department of Emergency Medicine, Singapore General Hospital (SGH). She holds faculty positions as Adjunct Professor at Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School and Yong Loo Lin Medical School, NUS. She teaches part-time at the School of Health Sciences, Nanyang Polytechnic. Her other portfolios include Vice Chair, Research - Emergency Medicine Academic Clinical Programme at SingHealth and Director, SingHealth Duke-NUS Institute of Medical Simulation, the largest simulation training facility in SE Asia. Her sub-specialisations include Prehospital Care Medicine, Cardiovascular and Neurovascular Emergencies. She has contributed and shared her professional expertise in countries such as the UK and USA and in many Asian countries. She serves as an International Consultant to Maxihealthcare, India.

Prof Fatimah’s medical education research interests are broad and wide-ranging. Her current research and studies include ‘sepsis and early goal-directed therapy’ and ‘the area of consciousness practice in medicine’. Emergency Medicine, Traumatology, Emergency Cardiac Care, Neurovascular Emergencies and Prehospital Care Medicine are her speciality and clinical interests. She champions improving communication skills of healthcare professionals using inter-disciplinary practices like drawing on “Look, Listen and Feel” (LLF) concept.

A strong advocate of lifelong learning and empowerments, she has presented over 500 abstracts at international conferences, published more than 300 scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals and is on the editorial board and reviewer for some 40 international journals. She leads various leadership groups. grooming youths and doctors to excel, which is also befitting her role as a core faculty, nurturing residents in Emergency Medicine. She is also an active volunteer in International Humanitarian Medicine and Acute Disaster Response.
