Bio

Dr Khoo Yoong Khean is a medical doctor by training with more than 15 years of clinical and public health experience. He started his career as a physician in Malaysia in primary healthcare, emergency and trauma medicine, nephrology, cardiology and infectious diseases. Prior to joining Duke-NUS, he was a clinical data analyst in a public hospital in Singapore, developing patient safety and quality initiatives for hospital-level programmes and a member of several credentialing and privileging committees. He is also active in medical humanitarian work, with several medical service work during natural disasters and street clinics for the urban poor. He obtained his Master of Business Administration in 2022.

Yoong Khean is currently an Assistant Professor at the Centre for Outbreak Preparedness with joint appointments at the Centre of Regulatory Excellence and SingHealth Duke-NUS Global Health Institute. He is also a faculty at the Centre for Infectious Disease Emergency Response at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore and an advisory board member of the Asia Pacific Oncology Alliance (APOA). Yoong Khean focuses on global health policy and health systems strengthening through policy development and capacity-building efforts. His areas of research and interests also include patient engagement in health systems, access to medicine and healthcare services and regulatory systems strengthening.
