Bio

After obtaining my medical degree, I completed post-graduate medical training programmes in Internal Medicine and Nuclear Medicine, becoming a Member in the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP UK) in 1996, a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine in Nuclear Medicine (FAMS) in 1999 and Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP Edinburgh) in 2012. In 1999, I completed an overseas Fellowship in Nuclear Medicine and Clinical PET Imaging at the Clinical PET Centre, Guy’s, St Thomas’ and Kings’ Hospital, University of London and in the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, USA. My educational background also included a BSc in Mathematics and a MSc in Biomedical Engineering, with a thesis on renal haemodynamics.

I am currently Head and Senior Consultant of the Department of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, Singapore General Hospital, a Clinical Senior Lecturer with the National University of Singapore Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, a Clinical Associate Professor at the Duke-NUS Medical School and Vice Chair (Faculty Affairs) of Singhealth DUKE-NUS Radiological Sciences Academic Clinical Program (ACP). I led and served the Department of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, SGH as Head of Department since 2014 and helped to develop it as a regional centre of excellence for Nuclear Medicine and Theranostics. During my headship, I intergrated Nuclear Medicine Department into, and also assisted in the conceptualization and development of, the Singhealth-DUKE NUS Radiological Sciences Academic Clinical Program (ACP) and also a new Division of Radiological Sciences SGH. As part of my work, I helped to co-develop and implement a new system for cluster-wide based PETCT service across the Singhealth cluster as a Radiological Shared Service. I assisted to design, develop and implement new clinical services for Nuclear Medicine in Seng Kang Hospital and for the new National Cancer Centre Singapore.

I was immediate past President of the Nuclear Medicine Society (Singapore) (2010-2020) and past Chair of the Chapter of Nuclear Medicine in the College of Radiologists, Singapore. I also chair 2 Ministry of Health Committees relating to health-care policies pertaining to Nuclear Medicine and Radiation Issues – overseeing Nuclear Medicine Specialty training and development (as Chairman of the Nuclear Medicine Residency Advisory Committee (RAC) under the Specialist Accreditation Board) and as Chairman of the MOH Advisory Committee on Nuclear Medicine, co-developed Nuclear Medicine Safety Standards under the new HCSA in conjunction and consultation with the Regulatory Compliance & Enforcement Division MOH. I also contributed as a member of the ACUITY Guidelines Committee to the development of new guidelines for the appropriate use of radiological imaging for various conditions such as low back pain, headache and chest Xray in asymptomatic individuals. I also had the privilege of contributing as a member of the National Environment Agency Advisory Committee for Radiation Safety under the Radiation Protection and Nuclear Science Division. In conjunction with Agency for Care Effectiveness (ACE) MOH, I was involved in developing and implementation of PETCT subsidy indications.

My field of sub-expertise is in the treatment of thyroid cancers, radioimmunotherapy, SIRT and other radionuclide therapy, as well as PET/CT imaging, molecular diagnostic techniques and physiological mathematical modelling and collaborated with various other researchers and clinicians, with over 106 papers and 10 book chapters, including in the Journal of Nuclear Medicine, International Journal of Radiation Oncology Physics, Clinical Nuclear Medicine. I have given talks and lectures at regional and international conferences on my areas of specialty, particularly in nuclear theranostics and partition modelling of Y90 microspheres therapy.
