She attended and completed the SingHealth Duke-NUS Academy of Medicine Education Institute (AMEI) Fellows programme in 2014, the AMEI Education Leadership Programme (AMLead) in 2015 and the NHG College, Partners HealthCare International and Harvard Macy Institute Health Professions Educators’ Essentials (HaPEE) Course (Oct 2016 – Apr 2018) to further develop her teaching skills to be a more effective health professions educator.
She held several education leadership appointments between August 2014 to July 2023 as NDCS Director Education, Academic Vice-chair Education SingHealth Duke-NUS Oral Health Academic Clinical Programme (ORH ACP), Director Graduate Education SingHealth Duke-NUS ORH ACP, ChairCollege of Clinical Dentistry (CCD) SingHealth Academy and Vice-chair Graduate Dental Education CCD SingHealth Academy.
Dr Ong is presently a Senior Consultant Periodontist in the Department of Restorative Dentistry at NDCS and is Clinical Associate Professor & Programme Associate Director to the Master of Dental Surgery (Periodontology) Residency Training Programme, Faculty of Dentistry, NUS. She has been involved in research with over 30 peer-reviewed publications. She has also contributed to the dental profession through her active involvement in professional bodies in various capacities and in providing continuing education courses both locally and regionally over the years.
