Bio
Alfred Sun came to Singapore in 1997 and studied at The Chinese High School, under a full scholarship from MOE. Subsequently, Alfred was awarded the A*STAR NSS-PhD Scholarship, and obtained his B.S. from Duke University and Ph.D from Stanford University.
During graduate school Alfred pioneered a novel trans-differentiation method to convert human dermal cells into functional neurons. That ignited his interests in human cell-based modelling of neural development and degeneration. Currently Alfred is focusing on functional studies of neuronal subtypes, and is also exploring 3D brain organoid models as a novel tool to study neurodevelopmental disorders as well as age-related neurodegeneration.
