Education Qualifications: MBBS (Malaya), FRCP, FAMS (Dermatology), Masters in Healthcare Ethics & Law, Masters in Counselling  

Dr T Thirumoorthy graduated as a medical doctor from the University of Malaya in 1972 and went on to be trained in internal medicine and dermatology.  He served in both public and  private practice and returning in 2002 to be the founding director and senior consultant dermatologist of the dermatology department at the Singapore General Hospital.

Dr Thirumoorthy is the Founding Director of the Singapore Medical Association (SMA) Centre for Medical Ethics and Professionalism (SMA-CMEP) from 2000 to 2003.  The SMA Council re-appointed Dr Thiru to helm the SMA CMEP as its Executive Director from 2011 to 2015.  He has been on the lead Teaching Faculty of the Ministry of Health/SMA Course on Ethics & Professionalism for Advanced Specialist Trainees since 2004.  In 2004, Dr Thirumoorthy was awarded the SMA Merit Award for services contributed in medical ethics and professionalism.

He was an elected member of the Singapore Medical Council (SMC) from 2005 to 2008 and in 2014 to 2017.  He continues to sit on the SMC Ethics Committee.  He served as a member of the MOH National Medical Ethics Committee (NMEC) from 2005 to 2012.  He has been the Chief Censor of the Academy of Medicine of Singapore 2012 to 2016.

He holds a Master degree in Healthcare Ethics and Law from the University of Manchester (2007) and completed the Masters in Counselling (Monash) in 2015.

From January 2007 to July 2017, he held the appointment as Associate Professor in the Education Program, at the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School, Singapore, where his teaching responsibilities include subjects on clinical skills, professionalism, medical ethics, communications and healthcare law. Presently he is an Adjunct Professor with Academic Development Department and MD Programme Department.
Dr Thirumoorthy served as Group Chief Medical Officer of IHH Healthcare from May 2017 and retired in December 2019.
