Bio
Dr Andrew Tsai is currently a Senior Consultant Ophthalmologist and Adult and Pediatric Vitreoretinal surgeon at the Singapore National Eye Centre and Clinical Associate Professor at DUKE NUS Medical School. He served a term as lead Resident during his third year of residency. He obtained his Master of Medicine in Ophthalmology in 2014 and qualified as a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in 2015. He completed his training in 2016 and was appointed as Chief Resident in SNEC in 2016/2017. He graduated with a Master of Clinical Investigation in 2019. He completed his subspecialty training in Medical and Surgical Retina in SNEC in 2019. Dr Tsai was awarded the HMDP fellowship in Paediatric Retinal Diseases and Advanced Vitreo-retinal Surgery Techniques, and completed a clinical fellowship in pediatric retina in Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary, University of Illinois at Chicago, as well as vitreo-retina fellowship in Linkou Chang Gung Memorial Hospital. In terms of committee work, he served as Clinical Director, Pharmacy, SNEC and chair of the SNEC pharmacy and therapeutics committee. He is currently the program lead for Surgical Retina in the fellowship coordination program in SNEC, and Program Director SNEC Fellowships.
Dr Tsai has a strong interest in research and published his first paper as an undergraduate. To date, he has published first-author papers in local, regional and international journals, and has presented at various conferences. He has co-authored a book chapter on ophthalmic surgery, an atlas on retinal imaging and he also serves as a peer reviewer for ophthalmic publications. Dr Tsai also received grants from NUS and the SNEC Health Research Endowment Fund. His current research interests are in adult surgical retinal outcomes and pediatric retinal diseases.
He aims to provide excellent quality clinical care to adult and pediatric retina patients, conduct impactful research into retinal diseases and continue to contribute to the ophthalmology community and educate the next generation of retina surgeons.
