Bio

Dr Wong is a Senior Consultant in the Surgical Retina Department at the Singapore National Eye Centre. He is Chair of the Centre’s Professionalism and Ethics Council, the Chief Risk Officer, the Chair of the Health Performance Office and Vice Chair of the Centre’s Quality Assurance Committee. He was Head of the Retina Service and later the Retina Centre from 2005, completing his term in 2016. He was a member of the Centre’s Strategic Planning Committee/Executive Committee from 2008 completing his term in 2017. He represents Singapore on the Council of the ASEAN Ophthalmological Society and is the Chair of the Society’s Scientific Committee. 

Dr Wong completed his basic medical training and postgraduate training in ophthalmology in Singapore. He went on to a surgical-medical retina fellowship in the Singapore National Eye Centre in 1997-1998. He was an international fellow at the Manhattan Eye Ear and Throat Hospital in New York in 1998 - 1999.

His practice typically includes surgery for retinal detachments, diabetic retinopathy and macular disorders (e.g. macular holes, epiretinal membranes, vitreomacular traction, myopic macular schisis). He manages complex retinal problems like proliferative vitreoretinopathy, trauma and retinal surgery in combination with anterior segment disease. In the field of medical retina, Adjunct Associate Professor Wong manages disorders that typically include age-related macular degeneration, choroidal neovascular disease, diabetic retinopathy and other retinal conditions.

Dr Wong is also a staff with the General Cataract and Comprehensive Ophthalmology Department and cataract surgery with intraocular lens implantation continues to be a significant part of his clinical work.

He is on the advisory panel of several pharmaceutical and medical equipment companies.
