Event Highlights

The event commenced with our graduates walking in the ceremonial procession with distinguished dignitaries, senior academic staff and faculty.

The Guest-of-Honour was Mr Lawrence Wong, Minister for National Development and Second Minister for Finance. Mr Wong was elected a Member of Parliament in May 2011 and subsequently held positions in the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Communications and Information, and the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth. He is a member of the Future Economy Council, the Research, Innovation and Enterprise Council and the National Research Foundation Board. Mr Wong also contributes to the labour movement as Chairman of the Singapore Labour Foundation.

The ceremony’s Keynote Speaker was Mr Ho Kwon Ping, founding and current Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Singapore Management University. He has been decorated with the Meritorious Service Medal and the Distinguished Service Order by the Singapore Government for his services to the country. Mr Ho has also been conferred honorary doctorates by Johnson & Wales University and from Hong Kong Poly University.

Among distinguished guests attending the ceremony were leadership representatives from the Duke University and the National University of Singapore.

The graduands were presented with graduation hoods, certificate holders and scrolls of the Hippocratic Oath.

Prof Ian Curran, Vice Dean of Education, Duke-NUS Medical School, led the class in the recital of the Hippocratic Oath. This was followed by closing speeches by the students, a recessional march and group photos.
