Congratulations to Associate Professor Marcus Ang, SingHealth Duke-NUS Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences Academic Clinical Programme, and Consultant at the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC), who has been conferred the prestigious Artemis Award by the American Academy of Ophthalmology. The Artemis Award was developed by the Senior Ophthalmologist (SO) Committee to recognize a Young Ophthalmologist (YO) Academy member who has demonstrated care and service of an exemplary degree to his or her patients. The name of the award is inspired by the Greek Goddess Artemis, who was the protector and nurturer of the vulnerable and oppressed.
Associate Professor Marcus has been recognised for his long-standing efforts in volunteering and organising humanitarian missions throughout Asia, as well as his dedication and impact on patients without access to healthcare and eye care. He is also the Founding Director and Head of Global Clinic’s Vision Team. Global Clinic is a Singapore-based non-profit organization that delivers free specialised healthcare in dentistry, ophthalmology and women’s health to less privileged communities with little or no access to healthcare. His contributions to society have also been recognised with national awards such as the Healthcare Humanity Award in 2012, and Young Eye Care Ambassador award in 2013 (Eye & Vision Health Awards, Singapore); as well as international awards such as the Excellence in Ophthalmology Vision Award (XOVA International 2013). Associate Professor Marcus also started a charity programme called the Mobile Eye Clinic for the underprivileged elderly in Singapore’s heartlands, providing them with access to eye care.
Our heartiest congratulations to Marcus again!
